Think Benrahma deserves a bit more time before being written off.

LT

We often go long, but, ironically, not last night. Barcelona at their best wouldn't have had any more joy trying to do what we tried last night.

Did anyone notice that Dawson's header was almost an exact carbon copy of Ian Dowie's brilliant header and in almost the same spot from the same end?

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
Ogbonna played in 2nd gear. Absolute quality. Pound for pound our best player since Payet.

Rice was good after a poor start. Needs to develop his game more on the ball and making more incisive passes and runs or showing for the ball more.

Everyone else was pretty poor - even Coufal.

Johnson should be used only when needed defensively - not good enough going forwards. Defensively rock solid though. Like a poor man’s Wan Bissaka.

"We would have done better playing BFS tactics"

You don't think we already do? We're very much a set piece side, who defend and try and score on the break.

"Johnson also looked woeful"

I think that's pretty harsh on Johnson. He's a YOOF right back who's been asked to play left back because it's quite obvious to all we've needed another left back for over a year.

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
No surprise Irons has jumped onto the bandwagon slagging off Benrahma already.

He's just stepped up from the Championship, he has to adjust in a new league and a new team/way of playing.

Moyes demands are entirely different, hence his comments the other week.

HOWEVER, if you cannot see the bloke CAN make things happen, like his chance last night which he managed to control the ball jink past a defender in a very tight space and still get a shot off which hit the post, you're clearly a fucking moron.

I like Benrahma and I'm desperate for him to do well.

He has been piss poor though, and not convinced he will make it.

I have to laugh at Haller still getting blamed for everything, Funnily enough the Ajax players that played with him didn't look shit.. Neither did Jovic whot got a £60 million move after playing with him.

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
The jury is still out on Benrhama, but the jury should strike last night's game from any consideration on a verdict.

It's not just the pitch conditions, that make it so hard for skillful, tricky players to do their thing, but the fact that they had to try and break through a team that were happy and well motivated to have a 10 man defence in front of the goalie and hope for a penalty shoot out or a cheeky goal from a set piece, which could well have happened.

It's all very well saying the 1964 pitch v Man U was worse, but Man U didn't park the bus.

We would have done better playing BFS tactics, if we'd had the players for it.

Our lot will rarely have to play on a pitch like that, thank fuck.

I agree with those who have said they are underwhelmed by Benrahma so far. He looks pretty shit to me and a Championship player.

Yarmolenko and Lanzini were awful last night. They won't have impressed Moyes and I would imagine he will ship them both out in the summer.

Johnson also looked woeful. I'm not convinced he is good enough to cut it at Premier League level.

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
I am not comparing Benharama to him but I think most of the time Stirling looks shit getting knocked off the ball, giving the ball away and running into trouble but he then produces one bit of skill and scores or sets someone up. If you do that just every other game your worth a fortune. Mahrez is another example and he cost £60 mil. Given that he is more or less a replacement at about the the same price for Diangana I think we got the better deal. I expect given more time and once he scores we will see him playing better.

Romfordboy 2:25 Tue Jan 12
Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
When I look at Benrahma he seems like someone who is trying to play a slightly different way... he is thinking rather than doing what is intuitive.

Instead of trying something every time he is assessing the risk and recycling the ball instead... not wasting possession. I’m hoping he comes good but if nothing else his work rate is applauded

Side of Ham 1:56 Tue Jan 12
Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
I think he's too obvious on what he's going to try to do at the moment, it's like he's trying to give us what he thinks we want instead of just looking to do damage using those around him to get him a route through.

Sometimes just keep it simple.....

geoffpikey 1:51 Tue Jan 12
Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
Regardless of last night's pitch, Benrahma looks WAY overpriced currently. Wayward crosses, gave the ball away... occasional promise of something good happening. I sincerely hope he improves.

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
He's better than Lanzini and Yarmelenko.

Fornals....hmmm...different type of player.

But get a fit mobile forward up top and he will be ok.

Lee Trundle 1:41 Tue Jan 12
Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
I like him as a player, and I saw enough of him at Brentford to know he has the SKILLZ. I just don't think we're going to be the right fit for him. There's just too many excuses I see for him for not having a really good game.

He might well be "our next Payet" but if we're not playing the swashbuckling/cavalier way like we did when Bilic managed us in "that" season, then we're unlikely to see that IMO.

NB
I'm making an assumption, that by playing him we have no issue on medical grounds

But who would trust the owners not to try wriggle out of it when it comes to show me the money time.

North Bank 1:35 Tue Jan 12
Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
gilmore is that correct regarding Benny passing his 2nd medical over the blood condition?

As a player I like him, he gives us another dimension can run with the ball and has the capacity to open teams up, I thought he played well against Leeds & Everton so let's see how he rolls against Burnley & WBA if selected

As a footnote and yes it doesn't count for much, but out of all our attacking threat last night he produced our one moment of quality when he hit the post after going past a couple of their players

Pretty much all of our midfielders bar from Soucek and arguably Bowen are generally wasteful in front of goal.

Re: Stockport v West Ham ⚽ Official Match Thread
Benny is a done deal for £20m now that he has past medical. We have to cough up at the end of the season, this is not optional.
